I was born in Sacramento, Calif., and graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif., with a joint degree in political and women's studies. I studied journalism at the University of California, Berkeley for two years, with a minor in Asian studies. I've interned at the Center for Investigative Reporting in San Francisco, the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times (capitol bureau in Sacramento) before coming to the Rocky in 1987. My interest in journalism started in high school, when I was writing for the newsletter for the California High School Student Lobby. That interest grew in college where I was a student activist and wrote commentary for a college paper. I have always been curious about the stories behind current events, and believe that an informed public can lead to social, economic and political change. At heart, I'm a lifelong student, always wanting to learn new things and sharing that information with others - two things that I do daily as a reporter. Unfortunately, I don't think my parents have ever forgiven me for choosing this profession, which they see as "making trouble" and definitely NOT what a good Chinese daughter should be doing. Oh well.
