Let views be known on Union Station
Published January 26, 2009 at 12:05 a.m.
I thank the Rocky Mountain News for Stuart Ohlson and Albert Melcher's opinion piece on what's now planned for Union Station ("Opening up Union Station," Jan. 17).
A lot of people agree with them, and many more would if they studied the current plans.
In short, the developers have so far had their way. As of now, the public will be deprived of:
1. Two fine mini-parks on each side of the central station building.
2. Sufficient tracks for future local and national rail service that will be needed.
3. Tracks running directly out of the station for future train service south to Colorado Springs and other points south, and
4. Worst for Denver area residents, light rail will be displaced to a location at least two-and-a- half blocks away from the station!
The city of Denver and other parties have neglected the promise of remaking Union Station as the true transportation hub of Denver, and the current plans will, indeed, cost more.
Those citizens who object to the poor planning for Union Station should let their dissatisfaction be known, or they will have to live with the results.
