Extremely odd sports from around the world

Extreme sports aren't limited to the West. Check out these extremely strange sports from around the world.

Wife carrying

Finland

A male runner carries a female contestant on his shoulders while running through an obstacle course. Points are deducted if the man drops the woman, but that's nothing compared with the cold shoulder he'll get on the ride home.

Extreme ironing

Worldwide

Tired of the same old boring household chores? Strap an ironing board on your back and head for the great outdoors. Recently, a team of 86 British extreme ironers set the world record for largest underwater group ironing.

Cheese rolling

England

Each year, participants hurl themselves down Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire in hot pursuit of a round of cheese. The first person to cross the finish line is the champ, but the real winners are the bandage salesmen.

Crash ice

Canada and Finland

Much like the cheese-rolling event in England, only there's no cheese and instead of a grass hill, participants strap on razor- sharp hockey skates and jostle for position as they speed down a glorified bobsled course.

Zorbing

New Zealand

Rolling down a hill inside an inflatable, car-sized plastic sphere looks like it should be totally harmless, right? Don't tell that to the reporter in Maine who fractured her back while taking one for a test drive.
