Ex-councilwoman: Rocky is the best

Published January 13, 2009 at 12:05 a.m.

I can't imagine my daily life without the treasure of knowledge that I receive from the Rocky Mountain News. I have been subscribing to both papers since I bought my home in 1967. During that time I have always compared the reporting about city issues that each paper prints because I had the good fortune to have insider knowledge about many of Denver's political happenings. In retirement, I have become a dedicated "watcher" of the political scene.

The Rocky's coverage of Denver's political events is so far superior to The Denver Post's that it is as though there were only one newspaper that even understands that city government is an entity the citizens of Denver might want to understand. The Post treats city political issues with the least possible information. We never read any kind of criticism or in-depth reporting from the Post.

I fear living in a one-newspaper town. The citizenry has been blessed with the freedom brought about by living in a two-newspaper town. I thank the powers that be every morning when the Rocky lands on my doorstep. I always read it as I eat breakfast and wait until late in the day to read the Post.

I hope that the best of good fortune befalls all of the people who work so diligently to give us honest coverage and that they will continue to be able to give us the freedom of information we have been blessed with thus far. Good luck!
