Rocky's final edition elicits memories

Published February 27, 2009 at 3:12 p.m.

Sadly, I awoke to find the final edition of the Rocky in my driveway. It brought back memories of a young boy (1948-1949) getting up at 4 morning after morning and rubber banding papers and then filling my bicycle bags and delivering the Rocky to porches from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue on St. Paul and Steele streets. We called on and tried to sell newspaper subscriptions to those who did not take the paper and we collected each month to pay our bill to the paper. It taught us discipline, business sense and accountability. Sadly it was lost for young people to get jobs doing this and learn with a hands-on approach. I have been a Rocky customer all my life and I am now almost 72 years old. I have taken both papers at times and always kept the Rocky Mountain News as the main paper. Goodbye to an old friend, I will miss you.
