AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas backup quarterback John Chiles will move to wide receiver when the Longhorns begin spring practice on Friday.

Chiles, a junior next season, has spent his career playing behind Colt McCoy, last season's runner-up for the Heisman Trophy.

Texas coach Mack Brown says Chiles requested the move. The move leaves Texas thin at quarterback. Junior Sherrod Harris, who has played in three games in his career, is now the top backup.

Texas will also have freshman Garrett Gilbert available in the fall.
