Look up Joe Nacchio in the Federal Bureau of Prisons database - his inmate number is 33973-013 - and the result is "NOT IN BOP CUSTODY."
That could change soon, as a federal appeals court revoked a ruling that Nacchio may remain free on bail pending his appeal.
The Bureau of Prisons had started the process of designating a facility for Nacchio before but stopped when he was allowed to stay out pending appeal. The process starts again now.
Nacchio has expressed a preference for a minimum-security federal prison camp in central Pennsylvania called Schuylkill. It's about 90 miles from Nacchio's home in Mendham, N.J.
At Schuylkill (pronounced school-kill), new inmates are given a variety of tasks, including cleaning pots and pans, mowing the grass and cleaning housing areas. They work five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Bureau of Prisons will make the final determination based on a variety of factors. At Nacchio's 2007 sentencing, Judge Edward Nottingham ruled that Nacchio had to turn himself in within 15 days of the Bureau of Prisons' designation.
The Bureau of Prisons will not publicly announce the designation until Nacchio turns himself in there.
