A motorist was shot by crooks who carjacked his SUV early this morning in Adams County.
The unidentified male driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and deputies recovered his Chevrolet Suburban after a brief pursuit, but two suspects escaped in the darkness, said Adams County sheriff's Sgt. Candi Baker..
Deputies were dispatched about 2 a.m. to reports of a gunshot victim in the 7500 block of Broadway.
They found the wounded man, who said two suspects had stolen his Suburban.
Deputies spotted a thief driving the SUV in the area and gave chase, Baker said.
The Suburban was abandoned near 70th Avenue and Avrum Street as one suspect fled on foot into the neighborhood.
Deputies set up a search perimeter and triggered reverse 911 calls, alerting about 1,000 residents to the manhunt and telling them to stay in their homes.
A search failed to locate the fugitive.
Police said the man, described only as white, wore eyeglasses, a dark baseball cap and a dark shirt. The suspects might be linked to a red passenger vehicle.
