The Nuggets' Nene will not play Monday against the Celtics after suffering a bone bruise in his knee against Milwaukee.
Fears about Nene’s knee have subsided.
The Nuggets announced Monday that an MRI confirmed the team’s original diagnosis that Nene, hurt Sunday at Milwaukee, has no structural damage, and only has a bruised right knee.
However, Nene missed Monday night's game against Boston at the Pepsi Center. Coach George Karl anticipates Nene won't play this week, meaning he'll also miss games Wednesday against Atlanta and Friday against the Lakers.
Nene was hurt when he banged knees with Milwaukee’s Richard Jefferson in the final minute Sunday.
The Nuggets on Monday, though, did get back forward Kenyon Martin after he had missed Sunday's game due to back spasms.
Even before Nene's injury, the Nuggets were looking at the possibility of signing another big man. One option is Mikki Moore, who was waived by Sacramento last Thursday night and clears waivers Tuesday morning.
The Boston Herald reported Moore will sign with the Celtics. Moore’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, wouldn’t confirm the report, saying Moore will decide by Tuesday from among Boston, the Nuggets, Dallas, New Orleans and San Antonio.
“We’ve talked,’’ Bartelstein said of conversations with the Nuggets. “They want to make sure that once he clears (waivers), they have a ton of interest. They’ve worked really hard.’’
