The sale rack: Books kick off bargain bender

"B" marks the spot, as books, bags, birds and backrooms highlight upcoming Denver-area sales this month.

* Start your B-bender at today's half-price book sale at the Aurora Public Library. Although the special event is for members only, memberships are available, starting at $15. The sale runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and all books are less than $5.

Proceeds benefit the library, which always welcomes tax-deductible donations of good-quality books and other media. 2243 S. Peoria St. (northwest corner of East Iliff Avenue and South Peoria Street). 303-326-8654, auroralibrary.org

* The annual Bird and Nature Festival kicks off at Tagawa Gardens today and Sunday.

Learn lots about our feathered friends and receive 20 percent off on all bird products, such as houses and feeders.

Some activities: At 10:30 a.m. today, find out which plants and trees attract birds. At noon, watch a birds-of-prey demonstration by Hawk Qwest. Sunday, learn how to add a bird-attractive corner to your garden. 7711 S. Parker Road, Centennial, 303-690-4722

* If you don't find a book at the Aurora sale today, try a big Book Warehouse Sale Feb. 28 in Denver. Thousands of used and new books will be on sale, nothing priced higher than $3.

Categories include cookbooks, travel, religion, fiction, large-print, children's books, arts and crafts, history, biography and health and wellness. Cash and credit cards accepted (no checks).

Proceeds benefit Denver-area public libraries and the Food Bank of the Rockies. Admission is one can of food or a $2 donation.

* Also on Feb. 28, the Second Time Shop will boast a Backroom Bonanza Sale, where shoppers will be allowed in the backroom to preview and purchase new spring arrivals before they hit the sales floor. * Mark your calendars for March 2 and 3, when the Porter Hospital Thrift Shop semi-annual bag sale gets under way.

Everything you can pack into a paper grocery bag is yours for $3 (plus tax).
