Wildfire battle resumes today
Published February 18, 2009 at 12:05 a.m.
Firefighters this morning will resume battling a 52-acre wildfire that broke out Tuesday in Roosevelt National Forest and on private land west of Loveland.
So far, the Bobcat Ridge Fire has not threatened any structures or resulted in any evacuations, according to Reagan Cloudman, a spokesperson for the U.S. Forest district.
The fire broke out in the Bobcat Ridge Natural Area about four miles west of Masonville, east of Spruce Mountain.
The first crews dispatched at 11:40 a.m. from Loveland Fire and Rescue noticed a plume of smoke and called for help. Because of the remote location, firefighters had to hike to the fire.
Eventually, 40 firefighters from Berthoud, Larimer County Emergency Services, Poudre Fire Authority, Big Thompson and the U.S. Forest Service, joined in the effort. They were hampered by strong winds from the north to northwest that gusted at up to 50 mph.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
