Returning funds puzzles city officials

Published February 11, 2009 at 12:05 a.m.

Denver City Council members were baffled Tuesday when the Office of Economic Development said it was returning about $650,000 of federal funds earmarked for work-force development.

"This strikes me as very odd," Councilman Michael Hancock said during the weekly mayor- council meeting.

Afterward, Hancock said he was disturbed by the proposed rescissions because so many people have lost their jobs and need to be retrained.

The economic development office promised to give the council a detailed explanation for the proposed rescissions by today.
