The Rocky Mountain Region of the U.S. Forest Service has requested the Bureau of Land Management to withdraw 57 parcels, or 66,692 acres, on national forest land from among the oil and gas leases scheduled to be auctioned Thursday.

The parcels are located on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison national forests. The Forest Service requested the withdrawal after reviewing formal protests that the BLM received. The Forest Service had previously withdrawn 29,589 acres.

Excluding those Forest Service parcels, the Bureau of Land Management will offer 28 parcels containing 12,205 acres of federal oil and natural gas leases at the Thursday auction.
