CATFIGHT

Jim Benneman, anchor at CBS4 News, had one of the best lines this year at the Denver Press Club's annual Gridiron Show spoofing politicians and the press.

He said the catfight between Democrat Betsy Markey and Republican Marilyn Musgrave in the 4th Congressional District reminds him of another legendary battle in Colorado:

"It was Linda Evans and Joan Collins fighting in the fountain on Dynasty."

CAT FRIENDS

Denver has officially declared itself a cat-friendly city. The proclamation made by the City Council recognizes the steps taken on behalf of cats by area animal care and control agencies that have provided licensing, spay/neuter surgeries, subsidized veterinary care and participation in an initiative to microchip cats for free. Indeed, Councilwoman Carla Madison, below, came prepared - in a cat costume - to extend feline felicitations. To find out more about the chip program, go to chip yourcat.com.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Bob the U.S. Senate candidate, it turns out, is related by marriage to Joe the Plumber.

Joseph Wurzelbacher, the now-famous Ohio plumber referenced by Republican presidential candidate John McCain in the last presidential debate, has a family connection to GOP Senate candidate Bob Schaffer. But before anyone starts requesting autographs, know this: Neither Schaffer nor his wife, Maureen, have met Joe.

The Schaffers are natives of the Cincinnati area. Since Joe came to light, Schaffer has found out that Wurzelbacher is a distant cousin of Maureen's father, who also happens to be a plumber.
