Level 3 looking to raise capital to retire debt

Level 3 Communications has signed agreements to raise up to $400 million in capital, which would be used to retire lower-interest debt due this year and next.
Donna Jaegers, a telecommunications analyst with D.A. Davidson & Co., said the deal, if completed, would give the Broomfield-based communications carrier "running room" in this weakening economy and eliminate any question of a near-term bankruptcy.
