Top five: Karaoke bars

Published November 13, 2008 at 7 p.m.

Karaoke may not have the cultural cachet it did in the '80s, when the image of the Japanese Salaryman crooning Love Me Two Times with cocktail in hand helped sell millions of machines to bars and party planners worldwide, but rest assured it's still out there and still popular. But you knew that already, didn't you? You were probably dusting off your tenor for a go-round with Mr. George Jones while reading this. So, to assist you in planning your next evening of booze-fueled song, here are Five Places To Get Your Karaoke On:

1. British Bulldog, 2052 Stout St. Join your fellow belters Tuesday evenings for Rod Stewart songs.

2. Armida's, 840 Lincoln St. Maybe Denver's favorite place for such vocal tomfoolery, Armida's hosts nightly off-key fun.

3. Ogden Street South, 103 S. Ogden St. This cozy neighborhood saloon offers locals the chance to pretend to be Jimmy Buffett on Friday and Saturday nights.

4. Eck's Saloon, 9890 W. Girton Drive, Lakewood. Depressed about your favorite NFL team's showing? Spend Sunday evening howling Cinderella tunes - and Monday, too, if that doesn't kill the pain.

5. The Zephyr Lounge, 11940 E. Colfax Ave. If that post-football Sunday finds you on the other side of the metro area from Eck's, worry not, because the folks at the Zephyr welcome you with open arms (and probably earplugs).
