Come in out of the heat at area theaters this summer, or stay out in the fresh air at a few of them. Here's theater for those hitting the road (and theater on the road) in the coming months.

Denver Center for the Performing Arts

Wicked continues through June 3. Mamma Mia! returns to town May 27 to June 1. The new interpretation of Sweeney Todd, in which actors play the instruments, runs June 17 to 29. Disney's High School Musical hits Denver July 22 to 27. Denver Center Theatre Company presents the musical 3 Mo' Divas through June 29.

Colorado Shakespeare Festival

June 20 through Aug. 16, University of Colorado. 303-492-0554

Artistic director Philip C. Sneed will play the title role in Macbeth. Other productions include Love's Labour's Lost, Henry the Eighth, Woody Guthrie's American Song and The Three Musketeers.

Creede Repertory Theatre

Not only does the gem of the mountains, a professional company, offer eight productions this summer, it also has arrangements with a bus company in Alamosa for those not into weaving through late-night canyons. The 2008 lineup: The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Neil Simon's Fools, Quilters, Life Is a Dream, Billy Hell (a Western by Denver actor/writer Steven Cole Hughes); plus an improv and two children's shows.

Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre

Once again, the Grand Lake theater goes musical. This summer features Oklahoma!, Big (based on the Tom Hanks movie), Urinetown and Why Do Fools Fall in Love?

Theatre Aspen

The season begins with the musical Little Shop of Horrors, followed by Rounding Third, Crimes of the Heart and concluding with Seussical the Musical.
