Nuggets rookie guard Sonny Weems will spend the next two months trying to get his legs back under him after having sports hernia surgery Thursday.
Weems, whose draft rights were acquired from Chicago on June 26, is expected to be ready for the start of training camp Sept. 30.
Nuggets guard Chucky Atkins needed about eight weeks to return from the same surgery last season.
Former University of Arkansas guard Weems, 22, averaged 9.2 points and three rebounds for Denver's summer league team in Las Vegas. He was the 39th pick in the draft in June.
