Weekend roundup, July 18

Your card, please

What to do with all those piles of antique postcards? That question has been bothering you for a while now, even more so now that your stacks have collapsed and you're lying half-buried under 10,000 views of Niagara Falls circa 1899. Dig yourself out and cart those cards to the 16th Annual Post Card Show, where experts can appraise your collection and maybe even take some off your hands. Your back and floorboards will thank you.

* When: Noon-8 p.m. today; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday

* Where: Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. Sixth Ave., Golden

* Cost: $5, good for both days

* Information: jeffco.us/fair/

Thor was a different story

The ancient Scandinavians thought that the "Daddy of 'em All" was a one-eyed pagan deity named Odin. Hoo-boy, how wrong they were! No, that title needed to stay in mothballs for a few centuries until the advent of its rightful recipient, Cheyenne Frontier Days. In business since 1897, Frontier Days features top-flight rodeo action, live sets by some of country music's biggest stars - Rascal Flatts and Tracy Lawrence, for two - carnival rides, Western art exhibits, American Indian dancing, pancake breakfasts . . . basically something happening in every cranny of Cheyenne. Odin couldn't even top all that with two peepers.

* When: Events today through July 27; see online for times

* Where: Frontier Park and various locations around Cheyenne

* Cost: Prices vary for event; see online for details and ticketing information

Free spree

Sure, your kids may be reading quietly and building complicated freestanding bridges out of balsa wood at the moment, but it's only a matter of time before they explode in a sugar-fueled whirlwind of youthful disobedience. Help get that out of their systems with a visit to KidSpree, Colorado's largest outdoor festival for children. Let them learn a future (and lucrative!) career at the construction zone, play in the giant sandbox, visit the musical petting zoo or make a few duct-tape wallets. They'll say thanks by taking both care of you in your dotage and an afternoon nap.

* When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

* Where: Bicentennial Park, Alameda Avenue and Potomac Street just west of Interstate 225

* Cost: Free

* Information: auroragov.org

The big blowup

You've been to the theater, of course. But have you been to the inflatable theater? No, that's not a euphemism - and this is a family newspaper, so shame on you for thinking that - it's the calling card of vaudevillian Fred Garbo and ballerina Daielma Santos, who together make up the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater. This family-friendly show features plenty of athletic bouncing, inflatable props, "pneumatic wizardry" and general good-natured foolishness.

* When: 5 p.m. Saturday

* Where: Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, outdoor amphitheater

* Cost: $14; $48 for a family four-pack

* Information: 720-898-7200

Artsy parksy

Although two years have passed since it has been held in its namesake venue, the 8th Annual City Park Festival of the Arts is finally back where it belongs. And as before, the breadth of art and entertainment reflects the Festival's mission to celebrate the diversity of local culture: highlights include performances by the Mestizo dancers, poetry, live music by Umconscious, a drum circle and, yes, plenty of art for viewing and sale. Stick around afterward for the free City Park Jazz concert.

* When: noon-6 p.m. Sunday

* Where: City Park

* Cost: Free

* Information: cityparkfestival.org
