Top five upcoming shows

Published July 17, 2008 at 6 p.m.

We know your social calendar is bursting at the seams, what with Elks Club meetings, band practice and night school - not so hot on learning to be an undersea welder now, eh? - but, honestly, we just don't care. We know that, despite all your carping about "responsibility" and "adulthood" and "potential homelessness," you'll still drop it all in an eyeblink to check out a killer show. And since we're here to help distract you from the low-level hum of your everyday existence, the following are 5 Upcoming Shows That Will Get You Out of the House:

1 Calexico, Newton Faulkner, Eric Hutchinson Aug. 8 at Fox Theatre in Boulder. You can't go wrong with Calexico's desert dust weirdness, and Hutchinson once appeared in "Club Hoppin'."

2 The Be Kind & Grind Fest Aug. 9 at the Marquis Theater. We don't have enough space to list all the metal: Cephalic Carnage, Skinned, Zombie Hate Brigade, Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire and many others are scheduled to play.

3 Angie Stevens & John Common Aug. 13 at Four Mile Historic Park. A relaxed, Swallow Hill-sponsored evening with two of our town's best songwriters.

4 The Unlimited Enthusiasm Expo '08 July 28 at Hi-Dive. We readily admit to having no idea what this is about, but check out the names of the bands involved: Harry & The Potters, Math the Band, Uncle Monsterface. That's a win.

5 Bob Log III, Scott H. Biram, Left Lane Cruiser Aug. 13 at Larimer Lounge. You'll go just to see Mr. Log play slide guitar while singing through his helmet. Don't be offended when he asks you to stick a piece of your anatomy into his scotch.
