BEAVER CREEK A dump of 10-12 inches of snow overnight forced officials on Thursday to cancel the super combined portion of the Birds of Prey men's World Cup races here.
There was no immediate decision as to whether the super combined would be rescheduled in Beaver Creek or elsewhere.
"Obviously there's no opportunity to run the race today with the excessive amount of snow we have on course," said Calum Clark, the vice president of events for the U.S. Ski Association. "The course crew is going to continue to do everything in its power to get the hill ready for tomorrow."
Course workers worked on the hill for most of Wednesday morning before snowcats took on hill maintenance overnight.
Athletes were notified of the cancellation before they headed up the hill for inspection Thursday morning.
Snow is expected to fall throughout the day, but officials expect to have the course ready for the Birds of Prey races to begin Friday with a downhill.
