Crocs, Skechers reach pact on patent-infringement claim

Crocs Inc. and Skechers USA Inc. have reached a settlement over patent-infringement claims.

Skechers agreed to stop making and selling some "molded footwear styles," the companies said Wednesday in a statement. Other terms weren't disclosed.

Niwot-based Crocs, whose stock has dropped 96 percent this year, is fighting to bar copycats of its colorful plastic clogs with holes. Amid falling sales and spending declines in the U.S., analysts have questioned whether the shoemaker can command prices four times those of its imitators.

Crocs sued Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based Skechers in July over its foam clogs sold under names including "Low Tide," "Gypsies," "Wooly Bully" and "Waterbug." Skechers denied all allegations and filed counterclaims against Crocs.

"We were able to resolve these matters without either side having to absorb the energy and expense that ongoing litigation requires," the companies said in the statement. All pending matters should be "disposed of" within 30 days, they said.
