— Fresh snowfall on the Birds of Prey downhill course forced cancellation of downhill training Wednesday, one day before the World Cup kicks off with a super combined competition.

Downhill training could have been run, officials said, but it was determined that it would be better to prepare the course for the races, which run through Sunday.

Course workers were on the hill early Wednesday shoveling the new snow. By the afternoon snowcats were to spread the snow and remain on course overnight to maintain the conditions. Officials also are calling for an early volunteer slipping session Thursday morning before the super combined begins at 11 a.m.

"We had four to six inches of snow overnight, but we had such a good training session yesterday and now is the opportunity to focus on really clearing the course," said Calum Clark, vice president of events. "With this, we have the best chance of having a good race (today)."
