Biden can't spin away from abortion stance

Published August 28, 2008 at 12:05 a.m.

The Associated Press' Eric Gorski and Catholic journalist David Gibson can spin all they want about Joe Biden's "faith" ("Faith central to Biden's fight," Aug. 25), but there is no question that when Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput says that Biden should not go to communion because of his stance on abortion, then he is not in good standing with the Catholic Church.

And old Joe tries to spin the matter, as well. Unfortunately he cannot have his cake and eat it, too, as this issue cannot be both ways to a person who says they are a Catholic. No Catholic ought to fool himself or herself on this issue.

They might be of a different persuasion of faith but if they are in favor of abortion or any issue that the Catholic Church says is intrinsically evil, and like to think they are a true Catholic, they are very badly mistaken.

But everyone knows that politicians will try to spin anything to win.
