PEPSI CENTER -- U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jeff Key stood out among thousands of protesters today, standing 6 foot 4 in his dress blue uniform and carrying a trumpet.
Key, a member of the Iraq Veterans Against the War, was one of about 50 demonstrators who marched against the war in military uniform. Two or three were Marines in dress uniform. Eight soldiers were in dress army uniforms.
Key asked members of the media this afternoon for help in getting a message to Barack Obama's campaign staff as a group of ex-military protesters reached the end of their march.
Key made the request, surrounded by dozens of reporters and photographers.
"I will wait to give the letter," said Key, the president of IVAW in Salt Lake City. "I'm a patient man. I'm not going anywhere."
Key was discharged in 2006 after what he called an "unglorious injury."
He said he worked near the Iran border in Iraq.
In civilian life he's written play called "Eyes of Babylon" and heads a non-profit group called the Mehadi Foundation, which does philanthropic work in Iraq.
