How to enter "A Dozen on Denver" writing contest

THE DEADLINE FOR THIS CONTEST HAS PASSED; NO FURTHER ENTRIES ARE BEING ACCEPTED

The Rocky Mountain News is looking for an original story to complete our series, A Dozen on Denver: Stories to celebrate the city at 150. The winner will receive a $500 prize and their story will be published in a Rocky Mountain News special section on Nov. 14.

THE STORY must be an original work, set in Denver in the future (how far in the future is your decision) and must mention Larimer Street. It should be 2,500 words. When writing, remember that language and situations must be appropriate for a family audience to read.

HOW TO ENTER

E-mail: Stories must be submitted as an attachment to the e-mail. They should be sent to spotlight@RockyMountainNews.com with “A Dozen on Denver” in the subject field. The document must be double-spaced.

Surface mail: They should be sent to: Rocky Mountain News, ATTN: Patti Thorn/ A Dozen on Denver, 101 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, Co. 80202. The entry should also be double-spaced

Contact information: Whether e-mail or surface mail, entries MUST include name, daytime phone, e-mail address (if you have one).

Who’s eligible: Entrants must be 18 years old and Colorado residents. Only one entry per person. Employees (and their families) of the Rocky Mountain News, Denver Newspaper Agency and Denver Post are not eligible to enter.

Requirements: The winner must agree to be interviewed and photographed for a story to appear with their story. The story will become the property of the Rocky Mountain News, although the author will have limited permission to republish.

DEADLINE

E-mail entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. Surface-mail entries must be postmarked by Sept. 15.

A Rocky Mountain News committee will select five finalists. From these, books editor Patti Thorn will select the winner; all decisions by our judges are final. Look for the winning story on Nov. 14, when we publish the special section: A Dozen on Denver: Stories to celebrate the city at 150
