GOING THE EXTRA MILE
Imagine a race of pure endurance, where the finish line is as far as you can make yourself go. The race is called the "Extra-Mile Endurathon," and it's coming to Boulder this spring.
"This is one of the toughest challenges Boulder has ever had," said event coordinator Ulrich Kamm, 60, who also plans to participate in the race.
The race will loop along the Boulder Creek Path and Pearl Street for four miles and last for as many hours as the contest- ants can keep their feet moving.
"We will walk until the last man or woman is standing," Kamm said. "People will drop out because they get tired or because of blisters, and then the last person standing has to do one extra mile to get $1,000."

SENSIBLE SHADES
* The dilemma: Sunshine is finally starting to sneak in between this winter's abundant powder days, and you want a versatile pair of new shades at a price that won't make you teary-eyed.
* The fix: Optic Nerve's Jetstream PG sunglasses
* Why they work: The polycarbonate lenses are polarized, to diffuse glare, and photochromic, so they lighten or darken based on sun intensity, via special crystals integrated into each lens. Darkening takes about 10 seconds, lightening about 30 seconds. The lenses also filter out all UV rays.
* Bonus: A lifetime warranty covers any manufacturing issues.
* Get them: $59; nerveusa.com

HE SAID IT
"I tell people skis are like the sports car of winter travel - faster but more limited. Snowshoes are the SUV - you can go anywhere with these."
