Police issued a careless-driving citation to the driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned early this morning and caused the westbound lanes of I-76 to close for more than seven hours.

Duane C. Coman Jr., 34, of Temple, Texas, was driving an 18-wheeler from Nebraska to Denver when he crashed on I-76 near Colorado 2 shortly after 5:30 a.m., said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gilbert Mares.

Coman entered a right-hand turn and overcorrected, sliding into the median and hitting a sign, Mares said.

The truck then rolled a quarter-turn onto its left side and blocked all westbound lanes, Mares said.

Coman was not injured. No other vehicles were involved.

The highway was closed until about 12:45, causing lengthy traffic delays, while workers positioned the truck upright and removed it from the roadway.

Coman also was cited for administrative violations and given four points on his license. The tickets cost about $117, Mares said.
