Fight-marred game sees Eagles prevail

Riley Nelson, Ryan Tobler and Chris Hartsburg each scored two goals to carry the Central Hockey League's Colorado Eagles (36-11-0) to a fight- marred 8-4 victory Friday against the Oklahoma City Blazers (24-14-7) at the Budweiser Events Center.

RAGE ROUTED Bill Vandermeer scored four goals to fuel the CHL's Amarillo Gorillas (25-17- 3) to a 7-1 victory Friday against the Broomfield-based Rocky Mountain Rage (11-30- 5) at the Amarillo (Texas) Civic Center.

CRYER HELPS BLUE DEVILS Cherry Creek High School graduate Caroline Cryer scored a school- record seven goals to lead the second-ranked Duke University women's lacrosse team to a 19-6 victory Friday against the University of Denver at Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Sophomore Karen Morton scored two goals to lead the Pioneers, and Ali Flury, Megan Carver, Kristie Leggio and Steph Coyne also added goals for the Pioneers in their season opener.

RAMS SMOKED Anjelica Selden pitched a two-hitter to lead the UCLA softball team to a 10-2 victory Friday against Colorado State at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic tournament in Las Vegas.

Robyn Mask drove in both runs for the Rams (3-4) with a home run against the Bruins (4-3).

PIONEERS IN STRIKING DISTANCE DU swimmer Kelsey Totura broke the Sun Belt Conference record in the 100-yard backstroke Friday with a time of 56.46, but the Pioneers women ended the second day of the meet in Nashville, Tenn., in third place.

Pioneers diver Aaron Feight won the 1-meter dive title Thursday, with Pioneers teammate Cody Stambaugh finishing second.

The Pioneers men's team was in second place after races Friday.

BEARS HONORED University of Northern Colorado swimmers Nan Liu, Katie Schmitt, Nikki Plunkett and Sarah Cook have earned all-conference honors from the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference.

RAPIDS FACE VALENCIA Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids will play Spanish league powerhouse Valencia in an exhibition match March 21 at Mestalla Stadium in Valencia, Spain.

Valencia is currently in fourth place in Spain's Primera Liga. Before arriving in Spain, the Rapids will train at English club Arsenal's facilities in London.

COMING TO METRO Grandview High School athlete Linna -Dengah, Mullen High School athlete Ashley Munchiando and Rangeview High School athlete Nicole Renko have signed -national letters of intent to play women's soccer at Metro State.

Bear Creek High School graduate Carrie Aversano will transfer from the University of New Mexico, and Mesa, Ariz., product Kayla Poe will transfer from Arizona State.

WEATHER PROBLEMS The Air Force-Kansas Wesleyan baseball game set for Friday was postponed because of poor weather. The teams instead will play doubleheaders at 11 a.m. today and Sunday at the academy.
