Weld crash claims 2nd life
Published October 4, 2006 at midnight
The Weld County traffic wreck involving a teen driver, her infant daughter and the teen's two brothers claimed another life Tuesday.
Miguel Bustillos, 12, died at Children's Hospital after suffering major injuries, spokeswoman Betsy Allen said.
His 15-year-old brother, Enrique, died Monday at Denver Health Medical Center, state troopers said.
Three-month-old Destiny Bustillos, who was riding with the brothers, had been flown to Children's Hospital on Monday afternoon. However, the hospital spokeswoman could not confirm whether the baby had been released from the hospital. When the infant was taken to Children's, troopers said she was in serious condition.
The child was a neice of the two brothers. The baby's mother, Tania Bustillos, 17, was driving a Dodge Stratus that ran a stop sign northwest of Greeley when it was struck by a pickup, troopers said. The 55- year-old pickup driver suffered minor injuries.
Tania Bustillos was taken to North Colorado Medical Center, where she was in serious condition.
Troopers are trying to determine whether the teen saw the stop sign as she was traveling east on Weld County Road 66 and approaching County Road 37. Witnesses told troopers the Stratus was traveling at a high speed, the State Patrol said.
Stop signs are posted at the intersection for motorists traveling east and west on County Road 66. No stop signs are erected for motorists traveling north and south on County Road 37.
