Two arrested, third sought in stabbings

Published December 15, 2006 at midnight

Loveland police arrested two men and are seeking a third in a stabbing incident last week in which two men were cut and needed medical attention.

Yesterday, the Loveland SWAT team and detectives served warrants and arrested Rene Renteria, 21, and Luis Moya, 21, without incident.

Both were charged with first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

They are being held in the Larimer County Detention Center in Fort Collins.

Police are looking for a third suspect, Cory Rene Jara, 27, on the same charges.

Detective Bob Weesner reported that on Dec. 7 police were called to the corner of East Fourth Street and Lincoln where they found Michael Menert, 24, lying on the sidewalk with knife cuts to his hands and a stab wound to the chest.

He was taken to McKee Medical Center in serious condition.

About 30 minutes later, Matt Smith, 19, came to the hospital with cuts to his hands. He was treated and released.

Anyone with information on Jara is asked to contact the Loveland Police Department at 970-962-2200.
