Drug-desperate robber busted in Fort Collins

Published December 15, 2006 at midnight

Fort Collins police arrested a 19-year-old Fort Collins man after he allegedly robbed a Safeway Store pharmacy this morning.

David Dubois was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital for evaluation before being transferred to the Larimer County Detention Center where he was booked for investigation of armed robbery and kidnapping.

Police spokeswoman Rita Davis said Dubois was the subject of a suicidal call to police by his mother earlier in the morning when she said he called her saying he was emotional and had access to guns.

He was gone by the time police arrived.

Then police received a call of a robbery in progress at the Safeway Store, 460 S. College Ave., in which a masked man with a rifle had entered the store and robbed the pharmacy.

Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot.

While police surrounded the store, Dubois was found several blocks away in a blue Ford pickup.

Davis said police found three loaded weapons in the vehicle along with stolen drugs from the pharmacy.
