Sunflower sentinels waiting out the winter
Published January 8, 2005 at midnight
I photographed these dry sunflowers Dec. 30 in Byers.
The challenge: The harsh noon light created some shadows when I was looking through my viewfinder from above the flowers.
The solution: I studied the shape of the flower and its shadows. I found that shooting from the bottom up made the shadows look like they accented the flowers' curves.
Equipment: I used a DIH ISO 250 at f/14 at a shutter speed of 1/125th.
